- Edward Hazlett, 83, Winthrop Fire Chief, Boston Globe, Apr. 8, 2002
   "Mr. Hazlett was born in Boston, graduated from East Boston High School, and served in the Army during World War II.
   Mr. Hazlett joined the Winthrop Fire Department in 1947. He was appointed as the town's first full-time fire chief in 1981.
   Active in town affairs, Mr. Hazlett was chairman of the Winthrop Board of Health, the Airport Hazards Committee, and the Convalescent Home Survey Committee. He was a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the Red Cross Council, and the Boy Scout Council, and he was a trustee of Winthrop Public Library."


His wife, Eleanor Anne (Witham), died in 2016.
