Winthrop sent 2,400 men and woman into the armed forces in World War II. The War Memorial in front of the Winthrop Town Hall lists 67 names of those who died during the conflict. A slightly different list of 64 names appeared in the Boston Globe (Subscription) on 2/24/1946, "Winthrop Counts 64 Gold Stars", Boston Globe (Subscription) Archives. The names that appear only on the Boston Globe (Subscription) list are marked with an asterisk *.
