Description |
Unloading supplies at the Revere Copper Works at Point Shirley in 1860. Governors Island in the left background. The Copper Works were operated from 1844 to 1869 by Joseph Warren Revere, the son of Paul Revere. It ran at its peak during the Civil War. Copper ore came from Chile. George Wyman is in the vest and shirt on the right. He and his son son August Wyman lived in the Tewksbury-Wyman House on Siren St. at that time. The kegs they are handling contained gunpowder which was made at the Powder Works in Acton, Mass. Photo taken in 1860. |
