The William P. Gorman Fort Banks Elementary School was opened in 2001. It was named for Willam P. Gorman, Jr., the principal of the school. He died in February 2004 after a lengthy illness. It is built on part of the former Fort Banks, named for Nathaniel P. Banks, Governor and Civil War General.
