Libero "Lee" L. Laura (1919-2016) - U.S. Army Air Forces, WWII -
enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1944, and served as a waist gunner on B-17 Flying Fortress bombers. He was wounded in the foot when flak hit and exploded a box of .50 caliber ammo in the waist are between hime and the tail-gunner. Laura is credited with 27 missions over Eastern and Central Europe. He received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, two Bronze Stars, and the Air Medal with Two Leaf Clusters.
After the war, Lee worked for many years at the Boston Naval Shipyard and the General Electric River Works in Lynn. Lee was an avid yachtsman and was a member and Commodore of the Winthrop Yacht Club for over sixty years. He was a member of the Beachmont VFW Post 6712.
