Robert F. Sloane, Jr. (1923-2016) - U.S. Navy, WWII -
enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was torpedoed and sunk on the Alcoa Rambler in the South Atlantic and spent over one week in a lifeboat without water or food. The lifeboat made its way to the Brazilian coast and he was rescued. After his rescue, he was stationed on the freighter William W. Gerhard. With troops and ammunition on board, the ship was torpedoed and sunk off the coast of Salerno, Italy. He finished the war stationed on the USS Wasatch in the Pacific.
After the war he went to work as an offset printer for a commercial printing company.
