Description |
This photo of Pleasant Street was taken in 1913. The porch to the immediate right in this photo is presently thebome of the Honorable Judge Ferrino. The house to the left at the comer of Pleasant and Woodside was raised and is currently the location of the Governor Winthrop Nursing Home. This house was labeled the "Haunted House" by local youths. In 1950 Malivina Fiorgione purchased it. Dr. Al Fiorgione a Winthrop resident explained that when he was twelve years old, his mother purchased the house for the purpose of converting it to a nursing home. Originally the house had a large formal reception hall with a grand staircase and very large oversized doors that led to a sitting room, dining room and formal living room. All three of these rooms' ceilings were ornately painted with angels, cherubs, and roses. The old house had servant's quarters to the re'irrof the house and a large carriage house with a hayloft. Later the house was raised to make room for the modem nursing home facilities that are presently occupying the site and operating underthe original business name. |
