Looking west to Orient Heights Hill (Breeds Hill) down what is now Summit Avenue. The house stands on Revere Street at top of Hill, now Fort Banks. This building was moved south on the same Street and now stands on the north side of driveway into Fort Banks and used as officers quarters. No houses in right distance-Chelsea. Practically no buildings that Orient Heights.
(The set of photos which include, file Nos. 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 [and 32] were identified by Sidvin Tucker, Town Historian. The following text was written by Mr. Tucker. These views of Winthrop were taken from about a point near the Summit of what is now Summit Avenue in 1868 for the city of Boston, which was at that time proposing to maintain an Insane Hospital on the Summit A venue Hill. The proposition was abandoned. See plan for approximate territory covered by each view.) |
