"Atty. Joseph M. Harvey, 47, of Sumerset ave., on Monday night of this week was unanimously chosen by the Board of Selectman as the new town counsel.

Atty. Harvey. who was sworn in at Town Hall by Ass't. Town Clerk Helen Burke immediately after his selection, succeeds Atty. Peter W. Princi who a week ago assumed the post of Collector of the Port of Boston District on presidential appointment.
   The new town counsel is a local native and life-long resident of the town. He was born to the late C. Joseph Harvey and Mrs. Grace M. Harvey when the family lived at the corner of Lincoln st. and Brookfield rd.
   His father was a former fire engineer here, was most active in local politics and was one of the founding members of the town's first Democratic committees -- the Winthrop Citizen's Committee.
   His mother now makes her home at 22 George st.
   Atty. Harvey was graduated in 1932, then entered Boston College where he was graduated in 1936. He enrolled in Boston College Law School and would have been a member of the Class of 1943 there bad it not been for World WW II.
   Harvey enlisted in the Anny as a private in 1942, was sent to Officers Candidate School and was graduated from. there as a second lieutenant. Follow¬ing service in North Carolina, he was sent overseas where he was a correspondent for the Army daily newspaper, Stars and Stripes.
   Prior to discharge as a captain in 1946 he was in charge of the Frankfurt, Germany, Bureau for the newspaper.
   On discharge, he re-entered Boston College Law School while working as a district reporter in this area. for the Boston Globe. Eventually he was taken into the Globe office and he completed his law studies night at Boston College.
   As a member of the city staff of the Globe, Harvey in 1948 was assigned for a two-week stint at the Suffolk County Courthouse and that "brief" assignment. has lasted until the present day.
   The new town counsel, well-known in his profession through his newspaper duties and highly regarded, is a member of the Massachusetts and Boston Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Federal Court Bar and Supreme Court Bar Associations.
   He is chairman of the committee on public relations for the Boston Bar Association and is a member of the State Bars press committee which currently is engaged in devising a code of ethics for newspapers and lawyers.
   Atty. Harvey is married to the former Macy Kelleher and they have two children, a son, Joseph, 15, a junior at Boston College High School, and a daughter, Mary Ellen, 11, in the sixth grade at St. John the Evangelist School."
