Addresses of David Floyd
"While making a preliminary survey in April 1937 of the material in the Winthrop Public Library bearing upon Winthrop’s history, manuscripts and typewritten copies thereof, of eleven articles written years ago by the late Mr. David Floyd, were discovered. Mr. Floyd was a life-long resident of Winthrop, one of its leading citizens, a Trustee of the Public Library for many years and probably knew more about Winthrop than any other man.
These articles were prepared from 1884 to 1912. They are listed on the next page in chronological order and deal with various subjects connected with Winthrop’s history, as noted.
Mr. E.R. Clarke, Supt. of Schools offered the services of the High School for copying these addresses. As a result, Mrs. Mabel H. Hurley, the head of the typewriting department of the High School arranged to have her pupils typewrite three copies (of which this is one). Two of these copies are available at the Public Library.
In his first address, Mr. Floyd refers to a map, some "warrants" and a memo mentions "see original" (Pages 6- 9- 11-13). Nothing was found among the papers that could be identified as the items in question. Possibly these may turn up at a later date and if so will be inserted in this volume."
